The Dragon Warrior

Taking the beloved character “Po” from the movie franchise Kung Fu Panda, and conceptualizing him and his story into a real kung fu movie styled poster. Taking inspiration from old Kung Fu movie posters, as well as the new modern saturated dreamworks feel to make sure I was pushing the mark while remaining recognizable.

With this peice, I really felt it was important to keep true to the animated look of Po the Panda. Keeping the same  propotions, stylistic design and painterly look. As this was about him embracing himself and what makes him great. Drasticlly changing his design would feel disingeniuous to that idea.

From there it was just a process of designing the composition, and choosing how I wanted it all to come together. Adding in elemets like the tempple, mountains, dragon, and symbol for “chi” to show all the pillars that build up Po to who he is in this moment. The Dragon Warrior.

CONCEPTUALIZING

When it came to designing this poster. I was presented with the challenge of taking a more comedic character and attempting to convey maturity, focus and kung fu mastery through his pose. While also not sacrificing his positive nature. Choosing a more warm color scheme helped with a more warm and happier mood, conveying the characters positivity. While also presenting him in a more professional and confident manner as the title of his movie would suggest.
